Encoding the video into Windows Media

Once you have created the video with the recorder you need to open 'Camtasia Studio'. You are going to use Studio to convert your .avi file into a Windows Media file and flash movie so it will play from your web site.

Step One

You have to import your video into the 'clip bin' so make sure you know where your video file is located. On the left side of studio you will see this area. Click on 'Import media, and find your video file.

It will appear in the Clip Bin like this:

 

 

 

 

Step Two

Now DRAG the video down to the time line at the bottom of 'Studio', you cannot do anything until the video is on the time line. It should look ike this:

Before you go to the next step make sure that the graph for audio looks like this example. If it is a solid line or no line you did not record your audio.

Step 3

Click the NEXT button and you will be taken to this screen. You are going to create a WMV windows meda file so select WMV under 'other formats'.

Select 'Windows Media' and click NEXT
Step 4

You need to set the video 'profile', this is the format you will use to create the video. It should default to this setting.

If you do not see this setting, then click on the arrow and scroll to this setting. Click the NEXT button

Step 5

The video has to be a proper size to play in a web page the size is to be 640 x 480, so select standard video size and scroll to find the correct size.

Step 6

Under Video Info select options > then select Author Information and put your name and copyright and year in the creator box.

 

You need to make sure that the video will play inside a web page, so on this screen make sure that 'Embed Video into HTML' is selected.

Now click the NEXT and NEXT again and you will see this screen

You are being asked to select a location for the video file so scroll to find your 'website' folder and change the Production Name to movie. MAKE SURE THAT 'ORGANIZE FILES IN SUB-FOLDER IS SELECTED.

Click FINISHED the program will start to encode your video and it will play in your web browser. The folder and files will now be in your website.

Linking to your website

Your windows media is linked from the media dropdown menu bar. The links is WMV. You need to change the link so it goes to your movie.html wepage page inside your movie folder. You do this by opening your template and using the Project Seven Pop Menu Magic application to make this change. This movie will show you the method.
