Creating your page banner

You create the page banner in Firworks of Photoshop. The banner size must be 960 px wide by 100 px high. You can increase the height but the width cannot be chnaged.

To create the banner open Fireworks and click New, set the canvas size to the measurements shown above. Set the background colour to whatever you wish.

Next you need to find a suitable background image for the banner. The process for this is the same as you did in the Cafe Townsend banner tutorial. The image you select must be at least 1000 px wide

Once you have an image import it onto the canvas, move it around till you find a suitable area for the background. Save your banner do this with Save As; name it banner and place it inside your website asset folder.

Now use the text tool to create the text portion of the banner. The text area is to have a large font size, so use 40 point to start and see what it looks like. You can add filters to the text to enhance the appearance.

Now save for banner, just click the save button.

Now go to 'File" and select 'Image Preview'. You will be looking at your banner. Make sure that it is in .jpg format,. Now click on the EXPORT button, and place the image inside your personal website Asset folder. This banner will be named banner.jpg You will link the banner to the web site with a style sheet.
