Slicing a fireworks graphic

You slice up webpages designed in a graphics program so they can load faster in a web page and you can also make some of the images interactive by using javascript in the image program to create rollover effects and links to webpages.

This is a mocked up webpage without any slices.

You slice your mocked up web page by using the 'slicing tool' located in the tools panel under 'web'

Click on the slicing icon then just draw rectangle boxes around the sections of your image that you want to slice. Slicing should be logical and you must name all of your slices, otherwise the program will provide some obscure naming conventions that you will not understand.

As you are slicing, the areas sliced will be turned into an image and will be given what every name you have assigned. Areas that you do not slice will be automatically sliced by the program.

You need to decide on the area that will contain the text box for the website material.

Your sliced up web page will look something like this. Note that the area assigned for the text is identified as HTML slice, and all other areas are identified as an image file with the .gif extension.

The final step in this process is to EXPORT the image in a sliced format. When you do this all the images will be placed in a folder named images and a web page will be created.

You will import the fireworks webpage into your website and it will be displayed under your GRAPHICS link .
