Snagit - Screen Capture by Techsmith

Snagit is a very useful application when you require images for a website, a presentation, report, etc. This application enables you capture any image that you see on your monitor. It has been around for several years and the most current release is Snagit 9.

I have included Snagit 8 on the download page of this website and the following explains how to use the program. The basics are the same for Snagit 9....they have just added a very more options. Snagit 9 is in the computer lab.

This is the start screen . You have several options as to the type of material to capture.

For our purposes you will be capturing a REGION. Capturing a region enables you to draw anywhere on the screen to capture the image.

Step 1

region buttonTo capture a region (area of the screen) click on the Region button. This sets the program to capture where you draw on the screen.

Step 2

capture button

Now click the Capture button, the program will minimize and you can draw around the area that you are going to capture. As an example I captured this button.

Step 3

captured image
After you draw around the area you wish to capture the image will appear on this screen.

All you are going to do is click on 'Save As' and you will be asked to name the image and to select the type of image. This program will default to the Windows bitmap .bmp extension. Do not us this.

Click on the drop down arrow this will let you select various types of image formats. Select .jpg . If you are using the image for your website save the image into your website Assets folder.

If the images are for your mockedup webpage create a folder on your jumpdrive and call it mockup_images and save the images into this folder.
