Creating PDF Documents

The creation of PDF files (Portable Document Files) with Adobe Acrobat is easy.

Instead of printing your document to a 'printer' you select the Adobe PDF Printer. Make sure that you know the location where you place the completed pdf file.

The file name will be the same as the name of your original document. When linking PDF files from a web page give the page viewer knowledge that it is a PDF document with this logo or this logo ,

Step 1

 

Any document that you can send to a printer can be turned into a PDF file. With your document open, go to print and select 'Adobe PDF'.

 

 

 

You will be asked for a file name. Unless you change the name the PDF file will use the name of the original document. Make sure that the PDF file is going into the proper folder.

Step 2

Start Adobe then open you PDF file. Click on the 'Pages' icon on the left side of the screen. You are going to create 'thumbnail' images of each page in the document.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This screen will appear showing all the pages in your document. Right Click and you will see this

Select 'Embed All Page Thumbnails. You will see all the thumbnails being embeded in your document.

Save your document.

Step 3

 

From the 'file menu' select 'Document Properties' or press Ctrl+D on your keyboard.

 

 

 

 

When the 'doc properties box opens, select Description. Put in a proper 'title' and your name as the Author.

 

 

 

 

 

Now select 'Initial View' and for Show: select Pages Panel and Page.

Set magnification to 75%

Step 4


This is the most important aspect of creating a PDF file. You are going to set 'Security' on your document. The default setting is 'No Security' click on the 'arrow' and select 'Password Security'.


 

 

 

 

 

 

When this Box appears, select 'Permissions' to restrict printing and editing. You can allow 'No Printing' or various resolutions of printing.

You must enter a password. Keep it simple so you can remember it. You will need this if you are going to make any further changes to the PDF file.
