Video Project - 20%

You are required to complete a power point slide presentation in the form of an info-commercial on a product.

The presentation must be logical and contain appropriate text, graphics and transition. PLEASE do this on a product that you use or have in depth knowledge of. It will make the task much easier.

You will probably have about 5 or 6 slides. This slide presentation will form the base for creating your video, so it is important that you have more 'graphics' then text, as the commentary will be provided by your audio track. Use a background colour that will work with your graphics.

When you have completed this video is should play for about 2 to 3 minutes. Anything longer than that will create a problem when you try and place this on the 'Learn Server' the location of your web site. You only have 30 MB of space (about 30 floppy disks) and these video files can become quite large.

Getting Started

Once you have decided on the 'product' then you need to obtain suitable images. You need to keep in mind the colour of your screen background and the images you will be using, so that there is no colour clashing or unsightly 'white' shadow lines around the images. The BEST background colour to use is 'WHITE'. Powerpoint 'Design' backgrounds are not acceptable.

Large images should be re-sized and you can do this in any image editing software (Fireworks, Photoshop, PaintShop Pro).

Creating the Slide Show

You should sketch out what you are going to do with each slide.

The slideshow has to flow in a logical sequence, with graphics and limited text, as these become your speaking points. You need to have transition on almost everything that is on the slide(s), that way you control when graphics and text appear or hide.

Make sure that everything that has transition advances on 'MOUSE CLICK'. That way YOU control when items appear on the screen.

Run the show a few times to make sure you are pleased with the 'action' and overall content. Now practice what you are going to say as the slideshow is advancing. Because you will have knowledge of the product words show flow freely. I've tried doing this with a 'script' and had limited success. You are not recording anything yet. This is just a rehearsal.

Adding the audio and creating the video

The hardest part is now completed, so let's get on with laying down the audio and making the video. Remember, nothing is cast in stone and you can do the audio/video as many times as you wish. You are the one making the decision on it's acceptability.

You should be doing this on your home computer or laptop. There is too much noise and other activities for you to do this during class time.

The final step

Once you have completed the video (.avi) you will bring it to to class and convert it into a Windows Media file and a Flash movie. and link it in your web site for grading. If you are doing the conversion at home the video size is to be 640 x 480.

Grading - to obtain the 20 marks

Part 1 - Create the powerpoint slideshow. It must have proper images, transition, background and limited text >>> 5 marks

Part 2 - Creating the .avi file >> 2 marks if it plays for an acceptable time - close to 2-3 minutes. >> 2 marks for the visual appearance >> 3 marks for the audio, it must be clear, understood and in sync with the video.

Part 3 - Converting the .avi into a windows .wmv file. and flash. swf

The wmv. video must have a description of the video and your name when playing back. The video size is to be 640 x 480. The flash movie must be converted using 'flash express' format and the player controls must show the elapsed time and total time of the movie >> 3 marks

Part 4 - Link the two video files from your e-media web page have a separate link for 'Windows Media'. the 'Flash Movie will be embedded into your flash webpage' > 5 marks
